Nutrition Support for Malnourished Infants

Image
The Clinica Maxeña recently began a Nutrition Support for Malnourished Infants and also Infants in our Nutrition Program of Pastoral Health; first infancy. We developed an agricultural project with 34 chickens that lay one organic egg daily. Each month each child in the program receives 8 eggs.  The mothers of the children come to a monthly meeting to receive the eggs. Sometimes the meetings are in their community and sometimes in the Clinic Meeting room.  The babies weight and health care is monitored by the Clinic Workers who are leaders in these health programs.  Pastoral Health for Infants is a National Diocese Health project.  The Nutrition Project is part of our Regular Preventive Program for Infants. Magali, Nurse Director, with the assist of another Clinic Worker, Felícita receive on going classes and meetings at  the Diocese Health Project.  The different communities also have regular meetings with the women who participate. Your contributions help us support these two impor…

I HAD NOT HEARD FROM A FRIEND IN NEED, MANUELA, FOR SOME TIME!

I ASKED CIRILO," IF WE COULD GO VISIT TO SEE HOW SHE WAS DOING"?!
I AM SO GLAD WE DID!  I HAVE SHARED IN THE PAST ABOUT MANUELA, AND

DIFICULT TIMES FOR THE PEOPLE OF GUATEMALA!  PEOPLE CONTINUE TO
GO NORTH!!!

I AM A DAUGHTER OF IRISH IMMIGRANTS TO THE UNITED STATES.  MY PARENTS
WERE ABLE TO COME WITH VISAS.  NOW TIMES ARE DIFFERENT FOR PERSONS LOOKING FOR WAYS TO PROVIDE FOOD AND EUCATION FOR THEIR FAMILIES.
A WALL WILL NOT KEEP THEM OUT AND SHOULD NOT.  MY PERSONAL OPINION.

AT THE PRESENT TIME THERE IS HUNGER AND NO JOBS.  THE COFFEE HARVEST WAS NOT FRUITFUL, FOR MOST.  MANY FAMILIES HAVE TWO OR THREE YOUNG ADULT CHILDREN, WHO HAVE SUCCEEDED IN CROSSING INTO THE UNITED STATES.  THEY DO SEND MONEY HOME.  THE MINIMAL SALARY A "DAY" HERE IS 12.85 CENTS A DAY!!  PRAY FOR A MORE JUST WORLD IN GUATEMALA AND OTHER COUNTRIES, SOUTH OF OUR BORDER, SO THEY DO NOT HAVE TO RISK THEIR LIVES TO MAKE A JUST SALARY.

i AM PLANNING TO RETURN NORTH TO RETIRE, MAYBE END OF APRIL.  I WILL GO TO MONTANA.  MY LITTLE COCO WILL STAY WITH THE CLINIC FAMILY AND
BE WLL CARED FOR.  I FEEL IT IS BEST FOR HIM AND ME!  IT WILL NOT BE EASY.

A VERY SPECIAL CHILD
WENT HOME TO GOD

KARLA GUARCHAJ WAS 16 YEARS OLD.  THIS WEEK SHE DIED FROM LEUKEMIA IN A HOSPITAL IN GUATEMALA CITY.  THERE IS EXCELLENT HOSPITALS
FOR THE TREATMENT OF CANCER FOR ADULTS AND
CHILDREN.  SHE STRUGGLED FOR THREE YEARS, ALWAYS IN GOOD SPIRIT AND WITH GREAT FAITH.
SHE WAS A SPECIAL CHILD.  SHE WAS IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL AND LIVED IN A MOUNTAIN VILLAGE WITH HER PARENTS AND SIBLINGS.

KARLA WAS SPECIAL FOR ME.  I WAS GOD MOTHER FOR HER FIRST COMMUNION!  I GAVE HER A ROSARY
THAT HAD BELONGED TO MY MOM.  SHE IMMEDIATELY PUT IT ON!

I HAVE A BEAUTIFUL PICTURE WITH HER ON THIS DAY.  SHE WAS ALWAYS SMILING.  SHE WAS NOT EMBARRASSED WITH THE LOSS OF HER HAIR FROM CHEMOTHERAPY.  HER FAMILY CARED WONDERFULLY AND WERE WITH HER WHEN SHE PASSED QUIETLY ON.  SHE SUFFERED THREE YEARS.
HER FUNERAL MASS WAS FILLED TO CAPCITY!

WE HAVE THREE OTHER CHILDREN DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER. PLEASE PRAY FOR THEM.
THANK YOU!!!

THE COMMUNITY OF PASAC, IS A SMALL MOUNTAIN VILLAGE, ABOUT 4 KM FROM OUR MISSION HOME!  THERE WERE MANY LEADERS THERE, THAT WE HAD CONTACT WITH.  JAMES MONDLOCH, ONE OF OUR FIRST YOUNG MISSIONARY PRIESTS, FROM THE DIOCESE OF HELENA, MADE THIS HOME.  HE LEARNED THE MAYAN DIALECT OF QUICHE.  HE DIRECTED THE BUILDING OF A PARISH CHURCH AND A SMALL PARISH CLINIC.  HE WAS A FRIEND OF THE PEOPLE!  THE CHURCH HAS BEEN REMODELED AND IS BEAUTIFUL AND MUCH LARGER.

AS YEARS WENT ON AN HE LEARNED MORE ABOUT THE COMMUNITY AND NEEDS. HE FORMED A SMALL COFFEE COOPERATIVE.  HE SOUGHT HELP FROM THE COFFEE ASSOCIATION FOR COOPERATIVES.  IT BLOOMED AND TODAY IS A VERY SUCCESSFUL COOPPERATIVE THAT HAS OVER 50 ASSOCIATES, MORE WOMEN THAN MEN..THAT WAS OVER 50 YEARS AGO AND IT STILL THRIVES AND EXPORTS ORGANIC COFFEE TO THE UNITED STATES AND ELSEWHERE!  THERE ARE SONS, DAUGHTERS, WIVES NOW LEADERS OF THIS COOPERATIVE.
