"Wendy Carolina", A MIRACLE CHILD

Wendy comes from a mountain village, several kilometers from the Clinica Maxeña.  She comes to NUTRITION SUPPORT GROUP MONTHLY.  All the children who have passed consult with our DOCTOR, and found to be malnourished and under weight are given Formula, according to their need.  They do not pay for the Formula or consult with the doctor.  They also receive their medicine without cost at the CLINICA MAXEÑA. Some of the fathers do come to the MISSION to cut grass and chop wood once a month, to help with expense of formula and Medical Care.. 

WENDY is a Special Child. She was born prematurely, at 6 months pregnancy, in the nearby National Hospital. She weighed ONE POUND EIGHT OUNCES AT BIRTH.  She spent 5 weeks in an  incubator , when her DAD said, "I WANT MY DAUGHTER HOME."  The Doctor from the Government Health Center, ALDEA GUINEALES, 8km into the  Mountains, came with another Doctor, to ask for our Help!  They were aware of our Nutrition Program and that the Clinica Maxeña provides Infant Formula when need.  Most infants do fine with just Breast Milk, but others do not thrive. We knew Wendy was a special case. She received Formula for a few months in Nutrition, and BREAST MILK..  Wendy actually receives 10 lbs.  Pediasure a month. We did succeed after few months, permission from the Dad to take her to a Pediatrician, in the city nearby. He diagnnosed her as a DWARF. He wanted to refer her to a Nutritionist in Guatemala City. This docotor suggested to change her to PEDIATURE, which we did.  The Father of Wendy did not give permission for her to go to the city for consult of a Nutritionist.. We felt we were making some progress and knew not to argue with her Dad.

The other infants receive Formula NAN 1 o NAN 2, or NIDO for infants, depending on the need.  We also provide two pounds of a nutritiona drink made in Medicinal Plant to all the infants.  This drink includes soy, mush, rice, peanuts, wheat, pepitorio, and cinnamon, pepper, corn.  It is ground all together, in the next town.  This atole was learned in Nutrition project of our Diocese in Guatemala lOur Doctor sees them in Consult to enter the NUTRITIONAL PROGRAM OF THE CLINICA MAXEÑA,  Their Medical Consult and medicine is free in the CLINICA MAXEÑA.

Wendy weighed 2 pounds and her height was 32 c.m., when she arrived to the Clinica Maxeña to request nutritional assistance.

WENDY NOW WEIGHS 13 POUNDS AT THIS WEEKS NUTRICIONAL MEETING.  Wendy now tries to run, still goes up steps with all four, hands and feet!  She walks around alone the meeting room, when her MOM is at Nutrition Meeting.  She will be 5 years old on December 5th 2018.
